Minneapolis is The Largest City in Minnesota

By: Douglas Scott

Minneapolis is the largest city in the US state of Minnesota and is the county seat of Hennepin County. The city lies on both banks of the Mississippi River, just north of the rivers confluence with the Minnesota River and adjoins Saint Paul, the states capital.

Minneapolis was born when two mills were built to cut lumber and grind flour for the men of a nearby fort. Despite the fact that these were reservation lands and that cabins were torn down by army troops almost as soon as settlers built them, the community of St Anthony developed at St Anthony Falls around the twin mills

The beauty and sophistication of Minneapolis is augmented by its striking seasonal variety. From hot summer days to brisk winter evenings.

The Historic Orpheus theatre in downtown Minneapolis is a fine place to see a concert, play, or other type of show. This theatre was built in the early 1920s and its elegance and grandeur has been restored. Back in the early 1980s, previous owners had modernized, and slightly destroyed the place by draping or painting over grand, beautiful architecture. In the 1990s it was restored to its beautiful old glory. The place is huge. When you walk into the huge theatre and get a glimpse of its gilded ceiling and huge chandeliers, you will feel like you are taking a step back into the old vaudeville days of 1930.

If youre going to the US for shopping then Minneapolis is an American retail therapy. With its no tax on clothes state legislation the city will show no mercy on any but the most generous of credit cards.

Minneapolis was recently recognized by the U.S. Census Bureau as having the 2nd highest percentage of people who bike to work, when compared to the 50 cities with the most workers in America.

Minneapolis has been called the friendliest city in America and quite simply has it all.
A very attractive destination for a family holiday. Great restaurants, peerless museums and a music scene that has amazed listeners for decades. Add to that some of the best fishing and hiking in the world within a short driving distance. Visit Minneapolis and enjoy the best of both worlds.

A variety of top class restaurants and Cafes, endless sports and cultural occasions, a world class zoo and no less than 170 parks and recreational gardens, and you have the makings of an unforgettable family holiday.
