Pune City is Located Near Mumbai

Pune city is located at 559 metres from the mean sea level. It is located in the Deccan Plateau and is about 100 kms east from Konkan coast and at a distance of about 160 kms from Mumbai.

Most of the important religious, historical, and tourist attractions are located around the Sahyadri and its slopes abutting the Bhima River.

Pune is one of the biggest industrial towns of Maharashtra and known as the automobile city as many big auto mobile companies have their head Quarters here.

One of the major tourist attractions in Pune is the Agakhan Palace. The claim to fame of the Agakhan Palace is the fact that the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi along with his wife Karturba Gandhi and Mahadeobhai Desai were imprisoned here in the year 1942, while participating in the Quit India Movement.

The Film and Television Institute of India imparts training in all branches of the film and television industry and has produced some of the finest show-business professionals in the country.

Shaniwar Wada Palace is places to be seen in Pune it was built in 1736. Today, only the massive outer wall of the Palace is left as the rest of it was burnt down in 1827. During its glorious days, the palace used to be the multi storey home of mighty Peshwas. The main entrance to this place is through iron spiked Delhi Gate. The nearby street was used to punish people by getting them crushed by elephants.

Bund Gardens are gardens are situated just two kms north east of the railway station on the right bank of the Mula Mutha River in Poona. The bund was constructed by Sir Jamshedji Jeejeebhoy for providing water to the poor. A noble gesture remembered forever.

A fort located near the city of Pune is situated on a hill 800 meters above the surrounding countryside and the forts location has been strategically important since 14th century and has been the site of many important battles. Also during World War II, this fort was temporarily used as a camp for German prisoners of war.

Pune is a fascinating city with a healthy climate all year round. The temperature of city ranges between 12 to 37.
