The Finest Cities in Europe

By: Keith Barrett

If you are thinking about spending some time travelling the continent then it's likely that you are going to have to limit yourself to visiting a selection of European cities. After all, there are so many places to see in Europe that it might take a lifetime to get round them all.

This article takes a look at Europe's finest cities - these are the must-see sights of Europe:

1. Paris: The French capital has the architecture, the style and the cuisine. Yes, the service at restaurants can be a bit annoying, but we reckon that's a small price to pay. With the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Sacre Coeur, the Arc de Triomphe and the Louvre more than making up for any downsides to Paris.

2.

Venice: If you're looking to spend time in the most romantic city in Europe, then this is the only real competition for Paris. Though Venice does get packed in the high season, the sight of this city rising from the sea is truly extraordinary.

3. Prague: The jewel of central and Eastern Europe. The capital city of the Czech Republic attracts visitors from far and wide. Stand on the Charles Bridge at night and admire the view of the Castle and the Cathedral up on the hill.

4. Barcelona: Though others may argue for the inclusion of Madrid, it is surely Barcelona that is the finest city in Spain. With its Gaudi architecture, thriving nightlife and coastal location, there's plenty to recommend in Barcelona.

5. Krakow: A surprise choice maybe, but one that should not be ignored. The Polish city is absolutely stunning. Take a trip to Krakow before it becomes too firmly established on the tourist map.

6. Florence: No apologies are made for the inclusion of a second Italian city on the list. One of the finest cathedrals in Europe and some of the best cuisine in Italy. Surrounded by the beautiful countryside of Tuscany.

7. Vienna: The city of music and culture. Like many of the cities in this list, a stay in Vienna is not cheap, but it is undoubtedly worth it.

8. Amsterdam: Canals, bicycles and the laid-back approach of the Dutch - Amsterdam is not to be missed.
