Called 'Venice of the East', Alleppey has abounds in picturesque canals, backwaters, beaches and lagoons. Sunsets and sunrises are one of the most beautiful phenomenon on the backwaters that you will come across.

What is a Houseboat?

  • A houseboat is about 67 feet in length and has a width of around 13 feet in the middle. The houseboats have fully furnished single and double rooms with sundeck, private balcony with kitchen and toilet with bath tub. 
  • You can hire a houseboat for a day or as long as a week. Most people go for overnight hire, which includes a serene sleep out in the middle of nowhere.
  • Peak season is during winter (Dec to Jan) where the weather is cooler and dry. 
  • Stay starts with lunch & ends with breakfast.
    Check in at 12 noon and check out 9am. All houseboats are accompanied by a chef, driver & cabin assistant. 
  • The rates for the boat varies from US$ 170 to US$425 based on rooms. 

Tips on Before Taking Your Houseboat

  • Book the whole houseboat to yourself if possible. Bring your mosquito repellant. Get a clean boat. Do a quick survey before confirming your boat. 
  • The cook on board will provide you with plenty of good food. Do not hang your laundry out to dry on the boat!.
  • Beers
    You can bring beers to the houseboat. Beers are only available at government shops. Alternatively you buy toddy (homemade local wine) from the locals in the village.
  • Swimming
    You cannot swim in the rivers but you can wear a bikini while on board the ship. 

How to Reach Alleppey

  • The nearest airport is at Cohin.
  • Alleppey Railway Station connected by rail with Cochin & Trivandrum.
  • It is well connected by Road (NH 47). You can reach Alleppey easily from Cochin or Thekkady. You can hire a cab or take public buses that travel regularly between these towns.
