Flights to Gran Canaria - Visit Some of Their Highlights

By: Gill Critchley

In the past Gran Canaria has been described as a continent in miniature. This is due to its changing terrain; you can find woodland areas, forests, extinct volcanoes and golden sandy beaches over just 1,500 sq km (590 sq miles).

As a result of the beaches, Gran Canaria is very popular with tourists and as cheap flights are available, it is well worth looking at when booking a holiday. However; if you would prefer to get off the beaten track there are also plenty of other areas where you can escape the crowds.

Casa Museo de Colon

This museum is based in the governor's house from the 15th century where Columbus is said to have stayed during his journey.

Jardin Botanico Canario

This is the largest botanical garden in Spain and as well as the array of tropical plants that you will see, you can also expect to catch a glimpse of giant lizards and songbirds on your visit.

Teror

This town has a quiet and architectural charm due to its historical roots and it is also home to a popular local variety of chorizo.

Puerto de las Nieves

This fishing village is often passed through by people on their way to Tenerife but perhaps more people should stay there a while, as due to its views of the water and relaxed atmosphere, it has all the right qualities of many popular tourist destinations.

Caldera de Bandama

This is a deep crater, very close to Las Palmas. From the top there are stunning views of the surrounding area and after this, you can take a walk down to the crater's base.

Cheap flights to Gran Canaria, at this time of the year, start at around ?237.10. This price is for return flights.
