By: Andrew M Kelly

If you are considering taking a vacation in the Western Isles why not think about visiting Harris. You will find that there a mass of Accommodation in Harris available throughout most of the year and probably the best ways to stay is in self-catering accommodation. Renting a self-catering house near to a beach is incredibly easy, today you just go online and use MSN Live to search for it. Sadly it is usual for some accommodation to be reserved well over a year by previous tourists to the island. Obviously it is immensely important that you make a deposit as quick as possible, waiting for a few days or months could cause you to lose out.

Harris Self-catering is superb fun the accommodation is always clean & tidy and incredibly luxurious whichever Isle of Harris Self Catering you book.

While visiting Harris in the Hebrides you should think about a trip to the Isle of Lewis where you will discover a selection of incredibly popular landmarks and places of interest such as the beautiful and well known Calanais(Callanish) standing stones. The Calanais(Callanish) standing stones are reputed to be the most remarkable and important in Europe.

Not far from the Calanais(Callanish) standing stones is Dùn Chàrlabhaigh Broch which is an ancient cavity-walled drystone structure of unknown purpose (but a great many folk assume it was defensive). Throughout the Hebrides you will see a large number sites of special interest. It would appear that wherever you lay your eye there appears an outline of rubble where at some time in history there was some type property. These were at some time in history a type of property named a blackhouse.

These days there are hardly any blackhouses in the Hebrides. There are a few that have been conserved and a couple that have been fully renovated and modernized and available as rental accommodation. Happily there is one available as Accommodation on Harris at Scarista in southern Harris. This incredible building is bordering onto one of the most gorgeous beaches on the whole of Harris (and Harris is well known for having some of the finest beaches in Europe.
