Travel: Getting Away for the Holidays

By: David Collins

With an estimated 2.5 million of us getting away for the holiday season last year, numbers this year are predicted to rise. Popular destinations around the Christmas season include Spanish resorts such as Malaga and Tenerife, as well as ski resorts in countries such as Switzerland and Austria.

If you're considering getting away for the holiday season, it's important to ensure that you are prepared at all points of your journey:

  • Journey to the airport - be sure to book taxis in advance, and be sure to arrive a few hours early in order to avoid long queues and to allow extra time for security checks.

  • Whilst at the airport, take something to keep you occupied - such as a book, an MP3 player or a portable games console - in case of delays. This can be especially important if you're travelling with young children.

  • If you're considering car rental during your holiday, be sure to book in advance and ensure that you have the relevant documentation in your carry-on luggage for when you arrive at your destination.

As more of us choose to spend Christmas abroad, finding the right car hire company can be a crucial part of planning your holiday. Because of the increased numbers of travellers flocking to warmer climates to spend Christmas, the holiday season is one of the busiest times of year for car rental companies.

With a wide range of car rental companies available in holiday destinations, fly-drive holidays in exotic locations have become more popular as more of us look to spend our Christmas season in a warm climate.

If you're planning on hiring a car for your Christmas break, it is advisable to book early to avoid disappointment.
