Sheffield is in south yorkshire that boasts a population of of 525 800. in recent years, Sheffield has been extensively redeveloped & now boasts some pretty modern structures, including the Millennium Galleries.

Unlike many big cities, sheffield is geographically diverse. it's situated at the confluence of 5 rivers & most of the city is built on hillsides with views into the city centre or the greenery. boasting an estimated two million trees, Sheffield has more trees per person than any other european city. In fact, 61 percent of the city is green space.

Sheffield won worldwide fame during the nineteeth century for its production of steel. in fact, most innovations in the steel industry were conceived in sheffield, including crucible (now the name of one of the city's theatres) & stainless steel. however, competition from other countries caused a decline in these popular local industries during the seventies & 1980s. at the same time, the national coal industry collapsed nearby, which caused huge unemployment & affected Sheffield's population.

In recent years, Sheffield's economy has recovered &, thanks to its booming music & movie scene, its become well known as a cultural centre.

As we have already discussed, Sheffield is a cultured city. This means that it has got plenty of snazzy museums and galleries to explore.

One of our favourite museums is Bishop House. constructed around 1500, Bishop House is the most well preserved timber-framed home in Sheffield. it's situated at the peak of Meersbrook Park and has been home to many different families over the years[/MARK Now it is open as a museum and has some pretty period furniture, which gives you a real feel ofolde england.

Boasting meadowhall shopping centre & a fantastic high street, Sheffield is a exciting location for shoppers. in actual fact, you will find everything from unusual independent stores to famous brands including New Look & zavvi.

If you'd rather explore the great outdoors, you will be pleased to know that Sheffield has two million trees, nearly eighty parks & ten public gardens. These are the ideal location to unwind & enjoy a cosy picnic.

Sheffield is well-known for its night life, particularly its nightclubs. in fact, the super club Gatecrasher started life here. However, it has nightclubs that cater to other styles of music too, including many indie clubs.

As well as exciting nightclubs, Sheffield also boasts a handful of great cocktail bars & wonderful live music venues, so it can cater to every taste.

Sheffield has wonderful road links and can be reached easily from most big british cities. as well as this, the city is well-served by rail, with frequent trains running from Sheffield railway station to a vast variety of locations throughout britain.

There is also an airport close by, Doncaster Sheffield Airport. The airport is placed 18 miles from the city centre and is mainly served by discount airlines, including Thomsonfly.
