Sheffield is a city in yorkshire that has a population of over 525,000. recently, Sheffield has seen some extensive redevelopment & now has some gorgeous futuristic buildings, including the Millennium Galleries.

Unlike many big cities, sheffield has a diverse geography. its located at the confluence of 5 rivers & most of the city is built on hillsides with views into the city centre or out to the countryside. boasting an estimated two million trees, Sheffield has more trees per person than any other european city. In fact, 61 % of the city is green space.

By the 14th century, Sheffield was already famed for the production of knives, and by the 1600s it was at the centre of cutlery production in the uk. These industries led to the rapid growth of sheffield, which saw the town made a borough in 1843 and being given city status in 1893.

Sheffield remaind a significant industrial city throughout the first half of the 20th century, but competition from other countries led to the closing of many steelworks from the early 1970s.

You will locate lots of exciting stuff to do in Sheffield. In fact, the city boasts some exciting museums and galleries, which are worth a visit. These include the great graves art gallery, which has some wonderful work by artists such as Cezanne, Turner and Sam taylor-wood. It also hosts frequent touring exhibitions.

A handful of other exciting museums and galleries are the Millennium Galleries and Bishops House.

Sheffield has many to offer lovers of shopping. the city has meadowhall, which is a enormous mall with over 240 stores. The mall was opened in 1990 and was one of the very first out of town malls in england.

Despite this, Sheffield city centre boasts some great stores, too. in fact, you'll find everything there, from high-street stores like brand-new look, to unusual independent stores.

Sheffield is renowned for its nightlife, which means that its a great location to visit for a night out. in actual fact, the city boasts many inns, wine bars, & nightclubs.

Sheffield is home to great bands such as the long blondes, abc, the human league & ABC. if you want to watch the next big thing, you could visit one of the city's great live music venues, such as the leadmill.
