By: ohthatwillbe1
Obese people have become part of an epidemic in the United States. Are you one of the 300,000 Americans who die each year of diseases related to obesity? Did you know that approximately $177 billion is spent on illnesses related to this epidemic?

Obesity can raise your blood pressure, cause diabetes and affect your legs and back. We are becoming a fat and lazy nation. If we are seriously looking to conquer this problem, we have to start accepting responsibility for our own actions.

Many people suffer from being overweight. It may result from a stocky build, slow metabolism, or some other physical reason. They will probably struggle with weight problems their entire lives.

Obesity however, is different. A very small percentage of obese people have medical reasons for their condition. The rest of them just cannot stop eating food long enough to see the consequences of their actions.

How many times have you been to a restaurant and watched obese people eat food non stop? They drink diet soda thinking that it will make all that fat and calories go away. It does not work that way.

Someone right this minute is probably reading this article and eating something fattening. If not, it has probably been less that an hour since they have last eaten. Before they can recover from their problem, they have to admit that they have one. And eating that fattening food is the first sign.

If this is you and you feel that you absolutely must eat something get some fresh fruit or vegetables. They contain the essential nutrients that your body needs for good health. And guess what, some fruit will actually burn more calories that they replace.

Are more than 50 pounds overweight? Do not start any diet plan until you are medically cleared by your physician. Your doctor can also advise you on the best programs to help you get started. This cannot be emphasized enough. Once you have eliminated the fattening foods, see your doctor.

Have you thought about visiting a counselor? Obese people may have a deep seated reason for you eating like you do? The answers may surprise you. Once you discover the reasons for your eating behavior you will be better equipped to deal with them.

Cannot afford counseling? Talk to a trusted friend. If you are a religious perhaps speak with your pastor. They may not be able to diagnose your problem, but they can be there for you when you encounter your food challenges.

The psychological effects of obesity on an individual are profound and deeply rooted. A network of support is often made up of individuals who are obese themselves. Those who slowly begin to embrace the belief that they can do it will slowly begin to turn things around for themselves.
