The results are far from lackluster. I have been there, done that, and wasted a lot of money for not even one cent of profit.

Trust me, no one cares about that pretty little visitor counter on your site. And that's about the only benefit you are going to get by purchasing junk traffic. Don't do it.

It's a common business notion that if you want to make money, you have to spend money. If you don't agree with this concept, you probably shouldn't be in business.

One good way of spending money on your business is through advertising. Advertising brings in potential customers because through advertising, people know that your company or product is in existence. With the right type of advertising, you will see an increase in traffic to your site. With a high volume of traffic, even if only a small portion or percentage turns out to be buying customers, it is still a good average of profit generating income.

Right now, there is no other advertising better advertising than Google AdWords. The surge in popularity of Google's Adwords is very evident, as so many "gurus" are now teaching.

By using Google's Adwords, you pay a certain fee depending on the number of keywords your ad is keyword sensitive to. Each time a person does a search in Google, the keyword or keywords used generate ads on the right side of your web browser, which are generated by the keywords that website owners have assigned to their ads.

This method of advertising laser targets the traffic a website owner wants for his/her site. This also ensures that his/her website readily visible in the first page of a search result. Paying Google for this type of advertising ensures that your target group of prospects sees your ads. You drive your targeted traffic to your site. You, in turn, supply information or a product meets their demands and needs.

Aside from Google, this type of advertising (better known as pay-per-click) is also available on sites like AskJeeves, AOL Search, Yahoo, and Netscape. In addition, there are also content networks, which are non-search engine sites, featuring Google Adwords. But this is subjected to the particular niche the site features. Your chosen keywords will determine which content network shall feature your ad. Furthermore, the frequency of your ad is determined by your allotted budget.

It is important to keep track of the ratio between the amounts of traffic generated by pay per click advertising to buying customers. This will help you determine how best to tweak your campaign for maximum cost effectiveness. Unless of course, you like throwing money out the window.

The selection of your keywords will form the backbone of your pay per click advertising campaign. Thankfully, there are many online internet tools that can assist you in choosing keywords and keyword phrases that are currently in demand. I wouldn't recommend using the most popular keywords for your particular niche, however. The most popular keywords are often very expensive. So, unless you are an expert, or have a huge advertising budget, its best to start off small to get your feet wet. You want to try and get the best return on investment. Don't be like most beginners.
