How We Put Creativity Into Use

Spirituality and Creativity

I think that creativity is a very important part of who we are, spiritually.

In order to believe in something, you have to be able to imagine that something. I'm not saying that beliefs are imagination. What I am saying is that you have to be able to believe it, in order to believe it, and that ability is imagination.

I believe that we use our creativity to understand our beliefs and to shape our faith in what we believe. Creativity is a very important element of spirituality.

**Creativity and Self**

Who we are is shaped largely by our creative resources.

We hold certain beliefs about ourselves, and these beliefs are shaped by our creativity.

But there's more to it than that.

If our imagination runs to Tinker Toys and Erector Sets, we're more likely to be engineers.

If our creative impulses are more verbal, we might become CEOs or motivational speakers.

So who we are, in terms of our occupation, is largely guided by how our imaginations and creativity work together.

But who we are, internally, is also very much dependent on our ability to imagine the life we want to be living, and work toward living that life.

There are things beyond our control, and things that we can't achieve, at certain times, no matter how hard we try.

But largely, our creative choices about how we're going to live determine the lives we have.

**Creativity and Personal Growth**

I really believe that personal growth is impossible without creativity.

I feel that growth requires imagination. We must be able to see what we want to be, and what we are not, or we will never be anything but what we are.

Personal growth requires visioning what we want for ourselves and acting creatively and pro-actively to get those things, those qualities.

**Summing Up**

It's sometimes easy to think of creativity as just "being creative," as making music, building things, painting scenes.

And that is exactly what creativity is.

In our lives, we make music with our words, using our creative communication skills to create the words, sentences and paragraphs necessary to express ourselves.

We build the lives we want to have, or at least the lives we do have, and we build our children's lives, and the lives of those around us, by the way we act and the building blocks we choose to focus on.

We paint a scene in our head, with each move we make, of how our lives are and will be, and of what we think we can have and do, and what we can't have and to.

It's not just creative people who are creative. Creativity is an innate skill which everyone who is ever born acquires at birth. But many people don't use it, and it doesn't grow the way it does in people who are considered "creatives."

We create our own reality in a very concrete way. We use our creativity every single second of our lives. Shouldn't we use it more creatively?
