By: Stephen Lars

Rasheed Wallace backed up Detroit Pistons in order to defeat the Dallas Mavericks 90 to 67 while Kobe Bryant excelled with 30 points guiding Los Angeles Lakers to a victory over the Washington Wizards 103-91.

Detroit, took advantage of a closed defense with Wallace leading with 21 points and nine repercussions backed by Tayshaun Prince with 16 shots for the fifth consecutive team win.

In the meantime, this was the first time the Texan team lost for less than 70 points in the season; last time it was back on February 26, 1999 against the Utah Jazz with only 65 points.

Dallas' most complete offensive was the German winger Dirk Nowitzki who totalled 15 points while his teammate Josh Howard also achieved 15 points.

Earlier in Washington, the Spaniard Pau Gasol dressed for the first time the glamorous gold-blue Lakers undershirt and witnessed from the bench how his new teammate Bryant celebrated the 30 points win with a final score of 103-91 over the Wizards.

Lakers Coach Phil Jackson opted to have Gasol rest throughout the night after the long trip from Los Angeles to Washington. Afterwards, Gasol travelled to Los Angeles to take the medical tests that would validate the deal. As it announced, Gasol will be ready to play Tuesday in the game of the Lakers against the New Jersey Nets.

Bryant is currently second in the NBA's top scorers list behind LeBron James (Cleveland). Kobe managed to score all the points, which allowed the Lakers to ensure an advantage of 30-15 in the first 12 minutes of the game.

With an effectiveness of 65.8% in their field shots in the first half of the game, the Lakers went to the break with a winning margin of 63-41 and in the thought they could make the gap larger. The Serbian winger Vladimir Radmanovich added 15 points for the Lakers, which also included Lamar Odom's 14 points and 13 from the French Center Ronny Turiaf.

For next Monday the most interesting game will be Dallas (31-15) and the Orlando Magic (31-8), seconds in the Southwestern Division of the Western Conference and firsts of the South Eastern Division of the East Conference, respectively.
