The Invisible Treadmill

By: Lance Davidson

If you're like millions of other Americans, you've probably made a New Year's resolution to lose weight by diet and exercise. Gym attendance is always the highest in January, because of New Year's resolutions. But joining a gym isn't always the best option, especially for folks who are self-conscious about their bodies. If this is you, or if you just like to work out at home for other reasons, you may want to invest in home exercise equipment. There are many types of exercise equipment available to those who wish to stay fit, such as exercise balls, dumbbells, weights, stationary bikes, trampolines, climbing machines, and treadmills.

Depending on your needs and preferences, you may choose one or more types of equipment.

A popular choice among home-exercisers today is the treadmill. Treadmills are great for people who wish to walk or run but do not want to expose themselves to the weather. With a treadmill, you can walk miles in your climate-controlled home.

There are two types of treadmills: the fold up treadmill and the manual folding treadmill. The fold up treadmill is also referred to as a power-folding treadmill or a shock-assisted treadmill. This type of treadmill folds itself, to keep you from straining your back. All you have to do is press a button on the treadmill and it will fold up. A manual folding treadmill requires you to lift the treadmill and fold it yourself. This can put a lot of strain on your back, especially if you are small or not very skilled at lifting. If the treadmill is heavy, folding it yourself can be difficult. Although a fold up treadmill is a little pricier than a manual one, it may well be worth it if you will be folding it often to put away for storage. If you're planning on leaving it out, a manual treadmill will do. Regardless of which type you choose, purchasing a treadmill is a great way to start the New Year.
