Why I Prefer Electric Airsoft Pistols Over Springer Pistols

By: Jeffry Evans

When it comes to airsoft pistols, there are many options out there to choose from. Almost anything you can imagine, from standard 1911 style pistols, to uzzis, to the 44 magnum desert eagle style pistol. And depending on the amount of money you want to spend, you can get air pistol that just almost looks like the real thing. Many of them come with full metal assemblies and weigh about the same amount as the real thing. They can be used in training for armed services or police activity, safety training for youngsters, or for good ole fun.

The reasons I prefer electric air pistols over springers are that they are better built, and they have the capacity to fire on an automatic basis. Of course they use a battery, but nonetheless you can have a spare battery or two just in case you run out of juice. But when you are in the thick of a competition, I just don't want to have to cock the springer every time I want to fire. I want to be able to focus in on a target and shoot repeatedly until I hit them. Especially if they have teammates that are very near, as I might get lucky and hit them as well. Bottom line, they are more realistic air pistols, and they give you and advantage over opponents that are using springers.

Have you seen some of the springer pistols out there? Not only are they more cheaply made, but they also don't pack near the punch that the electric pistols do. You might gain as much as 100-200 fps (feet per second) when using an electric counterpart. This comes in real handy when you are out there hunting down those longer range bogies. Also, with the higher velocity, you tend to be able to control the air pistol more, i.e. have better accuracy. With a low velocity springer, the airsoft BB is just going to fall too rapidly. Now, if you practice and practice, you might able to judge the distances better, and therefore get pretty accurate with the springer, but who wants to do that?

So the additional money tends to be worth it when it comes to getting the electric airsoft pistol over the springer. If you are just starting out and just want to get something, you might try the springer. But the serious airsoft fanatic is going to want to get an electric, or perhaps even a gas airsoft pistol.
