Exercising With Your Kids

By: Lauren B. Wallace

Many mothers would love to begin a workout regimen; however, many women are way too busy with their daily duties and they can't commit themselves to regular exercise. The result is usually irregular exercise or no exercise at all. However, regular exercise is important and it can be beneficial to both, the parent and the child.

Regular exercise can provide the parent with reduced stress levels, better mood, and more energy to complete the daily tasks. Young kids can also benefit from exercise. Statistics show that young people are less active than ever and obesity in children is at an all time high. Therefore, regular exercise with your children will benefit everyone.

There are many fun ways to exercise with your kids. One great way to exercise is to play in the pool. Being physically active in the water does not necessarily mean doing laps; while in the pool, you and your kids can engage in a fun games including Marco-polo, diving competitions, or anything fun and active. Also most kids love to dance, so bring a radio outside and feel free to act goofy with your children. If you don't have access to a pool then there are many outdoor activities that are fun and physically rewarding. Playing hopscotch, Simon Says, hide and seek, and jump rope, are just a few fun games that incorporate movement. The possibilities are truly endless. And if you have older kids, they may enjoy running or a brisk walk while they listen to their favorite songs on their mp3 players. Other fun activities with older kids include rollerblading, hiking and climbing. So the next time you are sitting around and watching television, try to pull your kids away from their videogames and entice them to join you in one of these fun activities.
