6 Excellent Golf Courses in California

California is home many excellent public golf courses, some of which overlook the Pacific Ocean. In this article, we will review some of beautiful public golf courses in California, and what they offer.

1., 2. and 3. Pebble Beach Resorts is home to several excellent golf courses. The best of these is surely "Pebble Beach Golf Links", a beautiful course that was ranked as the No. 1 public golf course in the US by Golf Digest in 2005. Additionally, "The Links at Spanish Bay" and "Spyglass Hill Golf Course" offer attractive and highly-rated courses.

4. The city of Santa Cruz is nationally known for its oceanfront attractions such as the Surfer Statue, Santa Cruz Wharf and Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. The city is also home to Pasatiempo Golf Course, a highly-rated course that was that was designed by reknown golf-architect, Alister MacKenzie, and which offers spectacular views of beautiful Monterey Bay.

5. PGA West offers 6 golf courses designed by 5 of golf's top architects and designers. Some of these are private and tournament courses, but the "Stadium Golf Course", which was designed by Pete Dye, is a beautiful and highly rated public course. Nine of the holes feature water, and the course is particularly noteable for Pete Dye's bunker design.

6. Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego is widely recognized as one of the finest municipal golf facilities in the world, and is home to two golf courses, North and South. The South course in particular is highly recommended. The facility takes its name from the Torrey Pine trees that are indigenous to the area.
