Golf Costa Del Sol, Spain Mijas Los Lagos Tips

By: Grahame Simpson

Mijas Golf has two well established courses on the Costa del Sol, Los Lagos and Los Olivos. They are both very popular courses for locals and golfers on holiday and offer an enjoyable round with wider fairways than many other courses.

Los Lagos was designed by one of golf's greatest designers who believed that every hole should be a hard par and an easy bogey. Trent Jones was one of the first course architects to use water as the ultimate hazard and he was a great champion of the concept ?heroic golf`, in which the player attempting a particularly difficult shot is faced with a clear risk/reward. In a career spanning seven decades, he designed courses all over the world from Spain to the States.

Los Lagos (the Lakes), lakes feature prominently on eight of the holes although the course has a very open feel as trees are sparse and there is only a little rough. Set on 150 acres of mainly flat land with views of the Sierra de Mijas Mountains, it has a wide variety of plants and trees ranging from jacaranda to the Araucalia Pines.

This is a great course to play and for more information on this course including tips on some of the holes please visit > Mijas Golf Course

Hole 4 is a long par 4 with the big hitters carrying the bunker on the right; otherwise you want to be safe up the middle left as it's a slight dog leg to the right.

Hole 8 is the longest par 3 at 200 meters and has water everywhere. Hit the green or short are your only choices.

Hole 11 is a shorter par 3, but again there is water surrounding the green. Sometimes there is a bit of wind so take a club extra is the best advice.

Hole 16 is a slight dogleg to the right so drive to the left of the fairway. Make sure you take enough club to the green as the front bunker catches a lot of second shots.

is always a joy to play and a great place for some drinks and food after where the friendly staff always look after you.

If you wish to play this course then let help you.

Always enjoy your golf.
