The inaugural Emirates Cup took place from the 28th to the 29th of July of 2007 and the featured hosts were: Arsenal, Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Valencia. Each team played two matches, with three points awarded for a win, one point for a draw, and a point for every goal scored.
Subsequent to two incredible days of football, and four matches, Arsenal was able to wrap up the final match with a victory when they defeated Inter Milan 2-1 and gave the Arsenal fans a good reason to celebrate.
Gary Chapman, Emirates Airline President, Group Services, who presented the trophy said; "Emirates is delighted to have been involved in creating the inaugural Emirates Cup. The event has acted as a vital fixture in the pre season training of four of Europe's top football teams, whilst at the same time giving fans the opportunity to watch matches they may not normally have access to."
The cup was made by Thomas Fattorini who created a design that would be significantly different from other international football trophies and something that a club would be proud to place in their cabinet.
Such design resembles the Emirates Stadium in its iconic and asymmetrical flowing lines across the rooftop, which motivated identical lines in the original brand identity for the stadium. The base, lip and handles of the trophy mirror these, with the Emirates logo placed firmly on the face of the cup.
