Wellness and Weight Loss

By: Rekha Srinivasan

Every woman would like to look beautiful. Of course beauty is not just the outward appearance. But in this article I would like to discuss on the outward appearance, as this affects your inner beauty. If you are an overweight person, people may think you are an overeater (not necessarily at all times) or they may think that you have some hormonal imbalance etc. Now is there a way to reduce and look healthy and beautiful?. Yes, of course. What I am going to discuss here, there are chances that you may already be aware of some of the points discussed, but the idea is to make you once again analyze yourself whether you are ignoring these simple facts and put you in the right direction.

Many women, though they know that they are overweight, they do not take any steps to reduce their weight. They live in inferiority complex rather than taking the corrective steps. If we talk about exercising to keep their body fit and in shape, they say oh' I don't have time for exercise. So first of all you should motivate yourself to reduce weight. Your overweight itself will endanger you for many diseases in future.

Generally women tend to put more weight after delivering a baby. After delivery they are given fat rich food and medicines. In addition to that they spend lot of time sleeping. But the relief for these new mothers is by breast feeding their baby, the fat can be burnt. If the mother feeds the baby with breast milk for 18 months, majority of the fat gets burnt.

Now, I have a question? How many times do you eat in a day? Most of your answers would be thrice a day. You can even eat 6 times a day but are you working out to burn those extra calories. In those days women worked out to the extent of what they ate. Now in this technologically developed world where you have machines to do all your work, think if you have to eat 3 times a day. There are some women who not only eat 3 meals but eat snacks also. So the second step to lose weight is to change your food habits, to put in simple terms, reduce food intake and go for a balanced diet with vegetables and fruits.

A woman who is doing hard labour, even if she eats 3 times more than a woman who leads a sedentary life style, she will not put on weight. At the same time if the people who lead a sedentary life style, even if they eat peanuts they will put on weight. If you eat 1 plate of potato chips everyday for 2 months, you are sure to increase by 2kgs. So it is necessary that the intake of food should also be reduced to maintain the weight.

So, what happens if you put on weight?. You will not only find difficult to walk but you also develop general body weakness, breathing problems, heart problems, constipation etc. So eat according to your work. The calories also varies according to food intake. You do not need a calculator to calculate the calories every day. It is enough if you follow certain restrictions in food. The basic principles for weight management revolve around the intake and expenditure of calories. To maintain weight one must ensure that the calories consumed are equal to the calories expended.

There are many models these days who starve to death to maintain their figure. You don't have to starve but you have to reduce your food intake. At the same time you have to burn out the extra calories you have gained all these days. So do simple exercises like walking. It is always better to have food to your half stomach. By doing so, you will also be able to do your work with much ease. Do not sleep after having your full meals. You should never sleep immediately after eating. If you eat at 8 in the night you should definitely go to sleep after 2 hours. Some people eat their food very fast. It will lead to lot of indigestion problems. Eat your food slowly. Enjoy your food. Avoid fat rich food. Reduce the intake of milk products. You can drink skimmed milk, soups. Fried items should be avoided. Avoid eating while watching TV or chatting with friends. Reduce the intake of soft drinks, coffee, tea, instead take fresh juices, tender coconut, avoid cashew and sweets.

So to put it in a nutshell you need to take a balanced diet which will suit your body and nature of work. Balanced diet is all about ensuring adequate intake of nutrients that we need every day. Good nutrition results in overall wellness. Today as you are planning for a program for weight loss, there are proven full meal replacement drinks available in the market which gives a complete array of nutrients.
