A Saturn head gasket's main function is to seal all the combustion chambers and also the coolant and oil channels between the head and the block. Because of this, it is positioned between the engine block and cylinder head in an internal combustion engine.

Installation errors usually occur due to inaccurate and outdated information include wrong surface finish, use of wrong sequence, procedure or torque specifications when tightening the head bolts, reuse of damaged, stretched or dirty bolts and the use of a sealer on a gasket that does not require a sealer.

This is to keep coolant out of the cylinders and ensures that oil, water, gasoline and exhaust gases stay inside the engine so it can function properly.
