Volkswagen will present its new Touareg Volkswagen at the Geneva Motor Show which opened this month. The new Touareg is equipped with the BlueTDI engine with SCR catalytic converter. The SCR catalytic converter was designed to reduce the emission of nitrogen oxide or NOx by up to 90 percent. The Touareg Blue TDI revs up 165 kW/225 PS and designed to meet even the most stern exhaust emission standards in the world.
The Touareg BlueTDI satisfies the 'Tier2 Bin5' standard which is currently the lowest limits set in various US states like New York, California, Massachusetts, Vermont and Maine. If ever released in the US it is expected that the economical turbo-diesel engine like the V6 BlueTDI can help in reducing oil consumption and controlling harmful greenhouse gases.
Volkswagen will be offering the Touareg BlueTDI with SCR catalytic converter in the US in 2008. This is in part of the BlueTec alliance entered into by Europe's largest automaker in partnership with Audi and DaimlerChrysler. The BlueTec alliance was created at the end of last year. Also scheduled for 2008 is the launching of Volkswagen's Jetta in US, which is part of the automakers small range of vehicles.
The Jetta will also feature the NOx storage catalytic converter which eliminates up to 90 percent of nitrogen oxides. Aside from its scheduled US debut it will also be launched in Europe together with the Touareg BlueTDI.
Here are some of the other remarkable features of the Touareg BlueTDI Volkswagen:
--- Selective Catalytic Reduction system or SCR designed to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 90 percent and mated to a 3.0litre V6 TDI 225 PS diesel engine which makes it not only the cleanest diesel engine in the world but also one of the powerful vehicle available.
--- A special engine such as that of the Touareg BlueTDI also calls for similarly outstanding engine components and that goes true even to the used on the engine. And speaking of , there are various types of engine belts that VW is offering there is the belt which makes a single continuous belt system that eliminates multiple belt operations.
--- The Touareg SCR meets two of the most stringent emission limits that is currently imposed in US and Europe-the Tier2 Bin5 and Euro-4 respectively.
--- The main function of the SCR is to convert and breakdown nitrogen oxide into nitrogen and water.
--- AdBlue urea solution is used for the conversion of the nitrogen oxide.
