First Contact: Bmw X3 3.0sd

Still is BMW X3 of the best sellers in the SUV segment. Even in the center of the production cycle it is torn Bavaria proper from the hands: Class Primus in the past year, also up-to-date stands the X3 at place 1 the jeep Verkaufscharts. But with the AUDI Q5 and Mercedes the MLK is medium-term serious competition forthcoming. A Facelift is to prepare the X3 for it. As bonus there are still new engines also equal. Highlight is the double turbo-Diesel with 286 HP.

Can one improve at a car, which stands so clearly in the favour of the buyers, anything at all? Yes, one can. And BMW did it. There were there quite points, which disturbed not only the delicate Journaille, but also petrol normal driver.
Everyone thing were for example the unlacquered bumpers in front and in the back. Clearly, the X3 should come along consciously durably. But many, which are determined to spend 40,000 to 60,000 euro on a car wanted here a more elegant solution. Now happened, and looks really better.

Aimed invests

Similarly it behaved in the interior. The Ambiente was soberly, the plastics straight once bearable, details like the door handle came along proper cheaply. Strongly one improved also here. The ranges at instrument panel and door lining, under-foamed, received a new, clearly high-quality seeming Narbung. A broad decoration border hÃ?bscht the instrument panel up, galvanized grasps and automatic controllers completes the Premium atmosphere.

Four new engines

New also behind the widened kidney: Only the basis four-cylinders (Benziner and Diesel, in each case 2.0 litres capacity and 150 HP) remained unchanged. The new Reihensechszylinder Benziner has 2.5 litres capacity and 218 HP and/or 3.0 litres capacity and 272 HP. On Diesel side now a 3,0-Liter-Reihensechser with 218 HP as 3.0d and as absolute Topmodell of the 3.0sd also - to hold - 286 HP are offered.

Before two years introduced to the 535d, this aggregate was easily modified and again 14 HP more strongly. Pour to the brutal Kraft are two turbochargers. The smaller digs for the engine already with lowest routes air too, the larger pustet then at higher numbers of revolutions with full Kraft. The result in figures: Already between 1.750 and 2.250 rpm the maximum torque of 580 Nm lines up, only with 5,070 rpm very high (for a diesel engine) intervenes the limiter.

Sports car values

How feels? Simply brachial. Without noticeable delay the engine tears on, winds up easily, catapults the Zweitonner in sports car manners forward. After only 6.6 seconds speed 100 is reached, few instants later shows those TAC hone aristocracy 140, 160, 180 km/h. Conclusion with propulsion is only with 240 things. The power transmission is made in series by a new six-course mechanism, which also switches not only super+gently, but for a transducer automat impressing fast.

The Spritkonsum holds itself to some extent within limits. According to factory specification the average consumption is about 8,7 litres per 100 of kilometers. With ours on board computer probably calculated vigorous test travels a value of approximately eleven litres.

Dynamically...

In the handling characteristics with the Facelift nothing changed: Still the X3 is with distance agilste and kurvenhungrigste SUV on the market. The razor-sharp steering element and the tautly co-ordinated, wankunempfindliche chassis place in such a way some on sportily trimmed middle class sedan into the shade. Again: The driving stability program DSC permits now also the sporty DTC enterprise (regulates later).

Owing to sufficient clearance (20 cm) and passablem embankment (in front 23.9 degrees; in the back) as well as ramp angle (17.2 degrees) the X3 masters 21.8 degrees also moderately severe area. A mountain starting assistance (new) prevents a rolling back at the slope, a mountain driving off assistance holds the before determined speed.

... and expensively as always

Which concerns prices and equipment, changed little. The X3 is an expensive fun. The Basisbenziner starts with 33.500 euro and at the upper end of the scale of prices strikes the superDiesel with 50.300 euro to beech. All relevant safety features are in principle on board. But even with the Topmodell comfort features must being specially paid like automatically dipping the headlights mirror, a MP3-fahiges CD radio, the a park assistance or leather equipment. If one adds then still another navigation equipment, are 10,000 euro for special equipments fast together.

Result

Everything with the old person, and nevertheless altogether again clearly better: BMW X3 is the driving machine under the SUVs. Here "the S applies ", which stands for "sport ", without reservation. Owing to new materials in the interior now also the Premium requirement is fully fulfilled. The sachten retouchings at the Exterieur leave Bavaria besides by far statelier and more elegantly to appear than the plastikbeplankten predecessor.
The new Top Diesel with double turbo and stage loading is the pure joy. Acoustically extremely maintained and with unrestrained Kraft he makes all honour gesegnet for the Bavarian engine works.
Despite the gesalzenen prices so fast none of the SUV throne will push the X3. Even for in the next years the announced, direct competitors of AUDI (Q5) and Mercedes (MLK) seems the freshly made X3 in the best way prepared.
