Just the ATV alone is not enough
So, your son's been begging you to get him a Kid ATV and you have given him the green light - but did it occur to you that just buying the Kid ATV alone for him is not enough? Before your jaw dropped any lower, let me explain. When you buy a house, you need to buy the other stuffs like beds, sofas, dining table and many other accessories, in order to "complete" the home, right? Well, the same goes for buying your son his Kid ATV. Other than just the Kid ATV, you need to get him the ATV accessories that come along with it. There, you do get what I am trying to tell you now, don't you?
There are a great variety of Kid ATV accessories that you will be able to find online or at the ATV shops - but I am sure if you have visited websites like www.jackel.com or www.kidatv.com to "survey" on the Kid ATV models that they have, you would also know that just like the various Kid ATVs that you see at these sites, there are many different types of ATV accessories available too. As many as the ATV accessories out there in the market, there are the basics of the ATV accessories that your son must have.
One of such is the helmet. It is the most important accessory that he must have if he's going to be riding on his Kid ATV. If he happens to be in an ATV accident, the part of his body that really needs protection would be his head! There are many types of ATV helmets and the more protection the helmet provides, the better it is. Some helmets are made just to protect the head while others are made to protect the head and the face of the rider as well. I personally feel that the latter is better because it prevents the rider from being poked in the eye and scratched by branches while he or she is riding.
Goggles will protect the eyes of the ATV rider and is also another important accessory for your son's ATV riding trips. Not only does it protect his eyes from any sort of eye injury but is also important because the rider will not have his vision blocked by mud or other types of debris while he is riding. Jerseys and pants are also part of the accessories for ATV riders because they do provide a little more protection compared to normal clothes and are more comfortable to be worn for ATV riding. Besides, your son will probably prefer the jerseys and pants that are meant for ATV riding because it will make him look like a "real" ATV rider.
Should your son also have plans to have night time riding excursions with his friends, you may want to consider getting him a headlight kit for his Kid ATV, that allows the rider to see at night. Surely you don't want your son to be riding in the night without some sort of lights to direct his paths, would you? I believe that it is better to invest a little more on headlights for his Kid ATV than to receive news of him crashing into a tree or another rider while he's riding on his Kid ATV in the night.
Of course, there are many more kid ATV accessories out there that is available, but it does not mean that you have to buy ALL of them. It really depends on how much your son is "into" ATV riding. There is no need for you to go out and grab all the ATV accessories that you see in the shops - just get what is really necessary for him first and then gradually add on when the need arises. If you want to know what the other parents bought for their kids when they first got them their Kid ATV, you can post your questions at the forums at www.jackel.com or www.atvoutdoors.net - you can be sure that the adult ATV riders and parents out there will be more than happy to put in a word or two of advise to you.
