Mace Pepper Gel- Sticky, Gooey, Nasty

By: Jack Krohn

Of all the hundreds of self defense products in the world very few have captured the imagination of people like Mace pepper gel. Mace brand is an internationally recognized leader in the defensive spray industry. Their products set the standard whereby others are judged.

Pepper sprays use Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) which comes from cayenne pepper. Their measure of 'hotness' is Scoville Heat Units (SHU's) most in the 2 million range. A habanero pepper by comparison has 300,000 SHU's.

A blast of pepper spray in the face of an attacker from a Mace spray canister causes shortness of breathe, temporary blindness from the eyes actually closing, choking and coughing. Not to mention the pain.

The natural reaction from a victim of a pepper spray squirt is to rub the spray, which just makes it worse, and now his hands are burning. There is no permanent damage to the attacker.

The purpose of any self defense product including pepper gel is to allow you time to escape or seek help. Pepper spray will give you anywhere from 15-25 minutes to get away.

Pepper sprays usually come in a fine mist stream, fogger or foam. They have a range of from 6-12 feet. Since they are usually used outdoors they are subject to variations in effectiveness due to the wind conditions.

To minimize this fact Mace invented the 'patent pending' Pepper Gel. This superb defensive spray has an extended rage of up to 18 feet and is disbursed in a gel giving it more body to hold up better in outdoor situations making it vastly superior to other products. It is sticky, gooey and nasty.

Circumstances permitting, I advise people to warn the would-be attacker by holding up the pepper spray and giving a short spritz and yelling 'back off.' Sometimes that is enough to scare off the bad guys.

Pepper gel is nasty stuff. It is perfect for home, auto, RV's, outdoor or business use. It could be your first and last line of defense in an assault situation.

Remember too that some cities and states have restrictions on pepper sprays so check with your local police or sheriff department for legality.
