Years ago, pepper spray was unheard of to the general public. Now it seems to be a topic of conversation at every turn. How much do you know? Read this article and get educated.

Pepper spray is an item that you feel comfortable carrying, so if you need it to protect yourself, you have it available. It feels good knowing that it fits in your pocket or purse and it is easy to get out.

But there our some things you need to know about before you put pepper spray in your purse or pocket. Here is some good information for you.

In many states it is illegal to carry or use pepper spray In some states you can carry pepper spray but not use it. In California the biggest can you can carry is 2.5 oz.
Anything bigger than that is against the law. You would have to check with your state capital to see what the law is in your state.

The states that do allow pepper spray are Michigan, New York, Wisconsin, Hawaii. These are states that you know you can carry pepper spray for your safety. There are other states that may allow it, but I would check to make sure as the laws do change.

The kind of pepper spray you can use is called "Michigan Formula" which is about 2.5 oz. When you feel like you want to have pepper spray with you so you feel safe you can go to the police station and show 2 forms of i.d. and they will give you a permit. It costs $2.00 in most states. That way you are legal and you may protect yourself when ever you need to.

When you spray pepper spray it is not lethal but it does hurt. If you feel that you were sprayed excessively or irresponsibly you can go through litigation. There have been times when the police have had to use pepper spray and they have been through litigation.

If you want information on litigation I would suggest you talk to your local police and find out what is the law where you live. Just be aware people can not just spray pepper spray at you for no reason.
