Making Midland Texas Home

By: Art Gib

The older I get, the more I appreciate warm weather. Cold temperatures and snowstorms bring on colds and make me retreat into my house to soak in a hot bath or curl up in a blanket. And, even though blankets and a bath are nice, I miss being outside in the winter as much as I hate being sick. If you feel the same way and you are looking for a warm and dry climate where you will enjoy sunny days during most of the year, you can find what you're looking for in Midland Texas.

Real estate in Midland is attractive not only because of the setting in the area, but also because of the price tag. Compared to the national median for a home, which is right around $200,000, a single family home in Midland costs half of that with the median price being around $100,000. This is a much better deal than you could find in other warm, dessert climates like Scottsdale, AZ.

Midland, TX may not be a resort town or an international vacation spot like Scottsdale, but it is enjoying a lot of development and there are still plenty of things to see and do in the city. Not wanting the landscape to look and feel like a dessert, city planners have created 49 parks which are scattered throughout the city with facilities like pavilions, sports fields and playgrounds. Water parks and public pools can help you keep cool in spite of summer heat waves and a lot of people take weekend trips to nearby lakes for outdoor recreation and camping trips. There are several theaters, restaurants and museums to visit as well.

Because the city is located in the Permian basin, where 20% of the country's oil supply is found, the economy in Midland is flourishing. Young adults have been bringing their ambition, energy and education to the area as well because they are attracted to the city by its affordability and social networks.

Midland, Texas real estate listings include everything from starter homes that cost less than a car to brand-new spacious homes that are very affordable for their size and utility. If you want to build your own home just the way you want it, there is plenty of property available for building as well. With so many options to explore, I would definitely recommend hiring a local Realtor to show you around though. They can point out the best neighborhoods and school systems and answer any other questions that you have. With their insider knowledge, they can probably help you save money and time as you search for your own home in Midland, Texas.
