Why You Need to Stand Up for Your Rights if You Risk Foreclosure

By: Chris Simpson

If you do find that you are late in making your mortgage payments then you need to be able to stand up for your rights when it comes to dealing with your mortgage company. In many situations a foreclosure could have been avoiding but the person on the receiving end decided to go into hiding, not pick up the phone, ignore the letters coming in and so on. Doing that type of thing is the biggest mistake you could ever make and could end up costing you your home.

As soon as you even suspect that you may have to be late making your monthly mortgage payment then you should contact your mortgage company and warn them about it. At least then they will know to expect your payment a few days later than usual.

By doing that they will see that you are acting responsibly and will recognize the fact that you are at least making an attempt to keep them in the informed about things. Doing this could be the most important thing you could do to save yourself from foreclosure. Acting like a wimp and avoiding whoever is trying to contact you is not going to help you a single bit. If you do receive a foreclosure notice then you still have to remain calm however scary it might seem. If you don't remain calm you will only end up getting yourself even more stress than you just don't need.

If you are upfront with your mortgage company about your current financial situation then you will find that it will pay off a lot more than not telling them anything. As long as you stand up for yourself let them you that you are doing everything you possibly can to make your payments on time every month they will be more inclined to listen to what you have to say.

By explaining things to them calmly and not panicking you are showing them that you want to work with them rather than against them. If for example you are earning less at work because your hours have been cut back then tell them that. They will take note of the what you are saying and by getting them to understand how your circumstances have changed will make it much easier to come up with a repayment plan that will allow you to catch up.

Hopefully you will never find yourself in this unfortunate situation and will always manage to make your mortgage payments on time every single month. Be sure to have a look around the internet to see what you can find out about foreclosure. You might even find some useful contacts that could really help you with your current financial situation.
