Torre del Mar
The beach in Torre del Mar
The main attraction for people visiting Torre del Mar is the beach. Wide beaches all along the town ensures no-one have to walk far before standing on the beautiful beach. The sandy area itself is quite wide, many places 50 meters, thus sun bathers avoid overcrowding. On the Torre del Mar beaches you will never have to lay shoulder to shoulder - unless you want to!
Torre del Mar - never ending beach promenade
The beach promenade in Torre del Mar is really really long. It stretches the full length of the town and into the two next towns, ending at Algarrobo Costa.
It is well maintained and has flowers and palm trees between the pedestrian area and the street making it a quiet walk. Many good restaurants are to be found along the beach, and the beach bars are also quite good, serving fresh fish with "tinto verano" or Summer Wine as it is called. It is a mix of red wine and artificial sweetened fuzzy water.
The Spaniards are famous for the family walks on Sundays, and Torre del Mar is no exception.
Torre del Mar is now re-united with it's lost sister
Velez-Malaga is the sister town of Torre del Mar. They are located next to each other, separated only by the new coastal motorway. It is two different towns with Torre del Mar as the coastal town with harbour and fishing boats, and Velez-Malaga as the farming town with many agricultural farms. A rail link now connects the two towns, making it easy to commute.
Properties in and around Torre del Mar
The town itself is not the most beautiful of the Costa del Sol coastal towns. There are however villa areas where you can find a good sized villa at a reasonable price, € 400 - 500,000 Euros. In Torre del Mar the best properties are the apartments in first or second line to the beach. They are not new, but can be bought are reasonable prices, and the running costs are normally quite low as there rarely are any community pools to pay for, due to the close proximity to the beach.
Velez-Malaga has never attracted the international audience, as the town has very few open and green zones.
For many years villas have been built in the mountains sloping down towards the coast. The mountain villas can be bought for around € 300,000 Euros.
Nationalities in Torre del Mar
Apart from the English, who are all over Costa del Sol, also the Germans like to live in the area. Neighbouring town Torrox and Torrox Costa have quite many Germans. The Scandinavians in the area also use the town for their social club.
