Luxury Housing Gains Ground in Chandigarh

By: George Gonigal

These days young individuals earn enough to afford a luxurious lifestyle and look for residential properties that offer superb lifestyle features. Nitin Prakash, who hails from Delhi but is working with Dell, Mohali-Chandigarh is one such individual. His salary is about Rs 50,000 per month and he is currently living in a single room-set in Mohali.

He says that he can't share space and privacy with others, especially when he can afford a cozy residential property in Chandigarh for himself. Going further, Prakash is looking for a studio apartment near by. 'I want to buy a small, individual apartment for myself. The place should be fully-furnished and should have great landscaping,' asserts Parakash. He says that buying property in Chandigarh is good from investment purpose as well.

'The city is expanding and this is the best time to find a comfortable lodging at this time,' says Shivani Chauhan. Shivani works with Prakash in Dell. She hails from Shimla and wishes to settle in Chandigarh forever. 'No studio apartments are available as of now, but certain developers have floated projects that will have plush single room accommodations. I am waiting for that to happen and will definitely pick up one flat here,' she says.

Prakash and Chauhan represent a generation that is cash-rich and is hoping that lavish individual apartments will soon come up in the city. Property broker Sanjeev who runs a PG accommodation in Sector 23 says that many people are looking for serviced apartments.

'Many people come up to me asking for a fully-furnished, well-serviced apartment where meals, laundry and other domestic needs are taken care of. This concept is very new hence we just offer a single room set and then they can arrange for their meals from outside,' says Sanjeev. He is hopeful that fully furnished flats will find many takers in Chandigarh.
