Preparing your Home for Sale: Interior

By: M Shane

In preparing your home for sale, there are some things that you should keep in mind. Certain qualities of your home will no doubt be the big attention grabbers. Whether they be the view, fireplaces, custom rooms or any other nest aspects that your home has; you will need to get the home into good enough shape that these features can be showcased properly. Remember to think in terms of clean lines and how the home will present to buyers who do not have the same emotional ties to the home.It will be difficult to do this, but it is necessary.

Moving from the biggest details to the smallest is a good plan of action. So: any painting that needs to be done should happen first.

Whether this be touch ups or changing the more "interestingly colored" rooms, get this task out of the way at the outset. Then set about the smaller details such as cleaning and re-arranging furniture. This is also a great time to get started on packing. Excess furniture, clothes, and other things will only serve to clutter up the home so get these things packed and out of the way. Keep just enough furniture to showcase each room. Make sure that all counter tops and tables are clean and clean. You may love the knickknacks that you normally decorate with but these things can interfere with a buyer's ability to see their own things in your home.

Now, when you are preparing for the showing itself, take some time and think about what will make the viewer's experience more enjoyable. Keep the temperature at a comfortable level and light the fireplace if there is one. (perhaps not if it's noon and 108 degrees) Also think about aromas, these are powerful things. The right smell can exponentially increase a buyers mood. Not to mention that the wrong one can do a world of damage. So try to avoid harsh cleaner smells, go for something soothing and happy like freshly baked goods or flowers. If you put the effort into the presentation of your home, buyers will notice and appreciate it.
