Memories of the bombing in Bali has kept Kuta's dynamic hip hop scene on hiatus for quite some time now. But it has gradually gotten back to its feet, and has even found a new home; Mbargo, arguably the best hip hop club in Bali .
A black façade and a hip red signage sets Mbargo apart from the row of buildings along Kuta road. Step in and find its chill out lounge to the left and the dance floor to the right. The lounge section is for those who prefer come to relax and have a chat; drinks therefore are a bit more expensive.
Tired clubbers can take a break and relax on the couches on the corners of the dance floor. Two bars offer an array of drinks and cocktails to suit various tastes. Mbargo serves Arak , a Balinese liquor served in a large plastic bottle. Arak is affordable (Rp 45,000) and guarantees to give your head a little spin. Apart from Arak , it seemed that most of the drinks and cocktails were prepared in a rush. Perfectly understandable, as the place is packed from 1 am onwards, and the bartenders have to mix several drinks all the same time.
As a bonus treat for the gents, Embargo holds a bikini fashion show on Wednesday nights; pretty much reminiscent of the movie Coyote Ugly. The crowd can be rowdy especially midnight, when most of them have had one drink too many. An even more eyebrow-raising note: foreigners can enter the club for free while locals have to pay Rp 50,000 on weekdays and Rp 100,000 on weekends.
