For years Ubud plays host to those longing for the ideal place to relax with scenic lush panorama. Hotels and resorts were built to overlook certain hills or rivers in order to bring such sceneries into reality. One particular hotel accomplishing this effect is the Maya Ubud Resort and Spa.
Set in almost 15 ha, Maya Ubud has everything that a resort has to offer. It stretches along a peninsula overlooking the Petanu River. This grandeur brings the possibilities of many an interesting sight and sound. A unique entrance to the airy lobby is found by walking through a wooden walkway, crossing shallow ponds dotted with candles. There you will have the magnificent sight of the entire resort, and you will be amazed by its immensity. Inside, the halls on the left and right side of the lobby led to the superior and deluxe rooms. As you walk through the lobby, you will be greeted with a lush green courtyard with the main swimming pool on your left side. Stroll down a little further and rows of Maya Ubud’s villas await you on the left side of your path, along with tennis courts and a petite putt golf course.
The resort is marvelous in its capacity to provide breathtaking sceneries for its guests. However, the resort is too humongous; I personally find it difficult to go from one place to another. Let’s take the Riverside Spa for example. It is perched on the lower edge of the hill. This means that you will have to walk down a dozen or so stairways down the hill then take the elevator to finally reach the spa. Although the location definitely offers privacy with the beauty of the rain forest, but once you are done with the treatment and walk out to all those stairways, you can’t help but take a deep breath saying, “Here we go again…”
The strong Balinese ambience is reflected in all the rooms and villas at Maya Ubud. They are designed with high ceilings, tall windows and teakwood furniture, with Balinese black-white checkered patterns as their hallmark.
