The Melia Villas and Spa Resort is located in Nusa Dua, right in the middle of the hotel strip. This means that in the direct proximity of the hotel, the only thing one can find except for the beach, are other hotels. Luckily, transportation is widely available and it's only a 30-minute cab drive away to get to more lively areas such as Kuta or Denpasar.
If socialisation isn't exactly kosher for you, there's enough reason to never leave the Melia complex. There are 5 restaurants on the premises; Sakura Japanese restaurant, Sorrento fine dining Mediterranean restaurant and Lotus Asian garden restaurant. Each has their own international cuisine and chef to ensure that the food is up-to-par with what you expect of the hotel. Other than that, there are numerous beach and pool bars, where you can put your feet up while sharing the seaside snacks with the friendly squirrels that inhabit the trees.
The beach is clean and safe to swim, since it doesn't have the thundering waves that challenge the Kuta shore. The tide is variable though. Swimming is best in the morning and after 5 pm, when it's low tide. The waters retreat about 500 meters, exposing a bare rocky sea bottom that makes wearing sandals a must. Of course, the huge pool that Melia offers is a perfect alternative to save your feet the trouble.
Besides giving into the lifestyle of a beached whale, The Melia has plenty of other leisure activities for the restless. From tennis to mini golf to bicycle rentals, you name it and the Melia will provide it. And your strained muscles can look forward to a pampering at the Spa afterwards. It offers massages of all sorts with additions of reflexology and scrubs and polishes that will leave your skin as soft as a baby's. You'll probably be sleeping like one too.
But wake up, there's more to do. The shopping arcade offers the usual souvenirs. But there are also a mini market a drugs store, a beauty salon and a logo shop to fill up your days and drain your money. Those seeking a connection with the world outside can make full use of the library, the business center and internet connection in all rooms.
For couples with more romantic needs the garden villas are perhaps more appetizing. The luxurious villas are set in secluded garden sets apart from the main resort and they each come with a private pool covered in rose petals, an outdoor dining room and luxuriously furnished air conditioned bedroom. For those who feel inspired by all this, there even is the opportunity to tie the knot in the wedding gazebo, all laid out to fulfill your dreams.
Getting bored in the Melia is simply not possible, getting lost however, is a common experience. Luckily there's always a friendly staff member around to guide you safely back to your domain.
