Rebel Gym
by: Emma Kwee

After eating too many greasy gorengans (fried snacks), the urge to lose some pounds instead of putting them on might appear. The Rebel Gym is a fitness center with two branches, one being on Jalan Prabudimuntur near Dago and the other located on the first floor of Jatinangor Town Square .

The fitness centre consists of two work out areas with fitness equipment. It might not be the newest on the market, but it still does the job. An instructor is constantly present to explain the mechanics of the equipment so you won't end up straining muscles when dangling upside down on a treadmill.

Other than fitness, Rebel Gym also has weekly classes of different martial arts such as aikido , yoga and body combat . Aerobics and Pilates classes are also a great way to get back into shape. Food supplements of various US brands are available as well, if you wish to gain mass or muscles faster.

For members there are some benefits such as free use of the sauna, Jacuzzi, hot showers and lockers. Again, these facilities look like they've been around for quite some time but they are a bonus that not every fitness centre has. The sauna and Jacuzzi are mixed so don't be surprised if you bump into a blend of Tarzan's and Jane's in the sauna.

The rates of Rebel Gym are very competitive compared to those of hotels or other fitness centers. There's a Rp. 50,000 subscription fee, after which you have unlimited access for Rp. 150,000 a month. Prices are even less if you subscribe for over three months or are with a group of over 5 people. Aikido, aerobics and yoga cost Rp. 125,000 for 8 lessons. Best way to find out if Rebel Gym suits your needs is to buy a single entrance ticket for Rp. 25,000 and decide after that.

Opening times are very convenient with the gym opening at 08.00 until 24.00 on weekdays. On weekends Rebel Gym opens at 10.00 and closes at 20.00.
