A Sanctuary @ Lake Gardens
by: Sophia

Taman Tasik Perdana (also known as Lake Gardens) is located along Jalan Perdana and is the city’s most popular park. It dates back to the 1880’s so its not only a place to relax amongst its beautiful and tranquil landscapes but it’s a historical treat as well.

The massive 92 hectare park is built around 2 lakes and is the brainchild of the British State Treasurer back in the 1880’s, Alfred Venning. It is a much welcomed retreat as it is within the bustling city but possesses a serenity that makes it one of the favourite rendezvous for the city folk.

There are many activities available at Lake Gardens. Walking and jogging are amongst some of the popular activities as the lush greenery, the floral blooms and the many sculptures makes for good scenery. The park is fully equipped with pedestrian walkways and jogging paths as well to aid walkers and joggers in their quest to keep fit.

Besides outdoor activities, there are many other attractions for those looking for a cultural experience. The Panggung Anniversary is a modest theatre which is located in a secluded valley. It is here that visitors can enjoy musical and cultural performances. Other attractions within the park include a deer park, a bird park, a butterfly park and a variety of beautiful floral gardens. The National Monument (Tugu Negara) is also housed within Lake Gardens.

Lake Gardens is an attraction that is suitable for both young and old. Its beautiful scenery and tranquility makes a perfect setting for those looking to relax and get away from the concrete and metal that is Kuala Lumpur. It could also be the perfect spot for a romantic date or a secret assignation. The young ones can occupy themselves at the children’s playground and row boats are also available for those who want a little bit of fun on a lake.

Taman Tasik Perdana is a refreshing retreat for those looking for a change of scenery. After days of walking around the city amidst the smog and din, a tranquil getaway might just be what you’re looking for. What more, Lake Gardens offers some beautiful attractions and a little bit of history thrown in. Spend a day at the park and you’ll be refreshed, energized and ready to prance around town again.
