Getting around to Sarawak
Most people fly to Kuching. Both Malaysia Airlines and Air Asia fly in from Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Pontianak, Indonesia or Bandar Seri Begawan. There are flights out of KL from KL International Airport or Subang Airport taking about 1 hour 40 minutes. The best flight to save the day and time is at 8:30 a.m. from Subang. There are also direct flights from Singapore and Hong Kong. If you are coming from Singapore, it is best to fly from Senai Airport in Johor Bahru where you can get a cheaper flight. To get to Senai, take a bus from Singapore to Johor Bahru and from Larkin Bus Stand, direct buses to the airport. Furthermore, regular flights connect Kuching to other major towns. Charter planes and helicopters are also available.
On arrival at the Kuching International Airport, visitors may take a taxi or rent a car to go into Kuching, which usually takes about 25 minutes, although rush hour traffic can extend this to 45 minutes.
Getting around by Air in other Towns are also easy as follows;
o Sibu
The new airport has fast and frequent connections to many destinations in East Malaysia and is set to become one of the busiest in the country.
o Bintulu
Bintulu is serviced by regular direct flights from Kuala Lumpur. Daily direct/transit flights are available from other major cities and towns within Malaysia. Uniquely enough, at the Bintulu Airport, you simply step out of the plane and walk right into the main street - this fact is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the town sited nearest to an airport.
o Miri
Malaysia Airlines and Air Asia flies direct to Miri from Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Kota Kinabalu in Sabah. Royal Brunei Airlines fly directs to Miri from Bandar Seri Begawan.
