Working With Animated Backgrounds

by : Morgan Hamilton

The World-Wide-Web has plenty of sites that allow you to download animated backgrounds, but you have to be careful when you do so. There are sites that offer attractive fonts, smilies, animated backgrounds, but they may also offer you something else. You can unknowingly get spyware and malware as part of the package, when you download from these sites.

I committed this mistake myself, and I now make it a point to be wary about where I get things online. It was a careless mistake on my part, but a lot of other people commit the same blunder. I wasn’t after animated backgrounds, but I was searching for smilies for my email. I went to Smilie Central and downloaded their program. My laptop was instantly infected with spyware. My laptop was nearly crippled. It took some time before I was able to solve the problem, and clean up my system.

A lot of sites do this because they are aware that people are fond of animated backgrounds or cool mouse pointers for their computers. They slyly offer you the stuff for free, but then sell your information to spam emailers and the like.

They may install spyware on your computer that can tell them about your browsing habits and your favorite sites. This information can be valuable to some people. At times they also install malware, which can damage your system, pick up your credit card information, or passwords.

If you are interested in downloading animated backgrounds, protect your system by having your spyware and antivirus running as you download. In most cases, they will pick up on any extra stuff that is trying to come through your computer. After an installment or download, remember to run your spyware program to ensure that everything was caught. There are downloads that will not run if you remove the spyware, but the choice is up to you. Do you want to maintain your privacy or get the free animated backgrounds?
