Situated on the south-eastern front of the island, this is the longest and most popular beach stretch in Singapore. With great food stalls, various water sport activities, cycling and rollerblading kiosk located along the stretch, it is understandable why this beach is known to be the best in Singapore.

A great place to spend your weekend sitting under any of the coconut, casuarina or ketapang trees and feel the sea breeze gently caress your face while you unwind.

It is considered Singapore’s play area, filled with activities, either on the beach or in the park where cycling and roller-bladding seems to be the hot sport among the young and old. Hire a bike for S$5 for 90 minutes and cycle from one end to the other.

If you prefer rollerblading, you can find beginners practicing in a skating ring. For those into water sports, you will enjoy canoeing, wind surfing, or the latest craze among teenagers that is similar to surfing – skimming. Skimming is not as stable and requires a lot of practice to control the wooden board. Equipment and training for these facilities can be hired by concessionaires at a low fee and is organised by the Sailing Club and the People’s Association.

You’ll see many tents pitched and families holding barbeque on the beaches. East Coast Beach is a great place to relax with loved ones, families and friends. For a quiet time alone, it will be best to be there one to two hours before sunset. Be there by 6am. The sun will rise around 6.30am to 6.45am.

East Coast Seafood Centre is a great place for tasty seafood although it might burn a hole in your pocket. It is huge area that is always busy, no matter what day of the week! There are several restaurants within the centre and they are all relatively large – Jumbo Seafood can alone accommodate 1200 diners!! Try Singapore’s very own signature seafood dish here, Sri Lankan crab in chili sauce. The crab is cooked in tangy spicy gravy and is eaten with Chinese buns.
