Habib Noh was born in Penang. He settled in Singapore in 1819.

He was revered as a holy man and credited with supernatural powers; he could be present in more that one place at the same time. Habib Nor showed compassion to the poor and it is said that he would pick up coins from money-changers and distribute them to the poor with no protest from the money-changers. He loved the company of children and was quite often seen surrounded by them.
