About
Adam Road is an upscale neighbourhood for expatriates and important commercial businessmen. This is possibly one area in Singapore that is void of industrial sites, lending it tranquil settings. The busiest area at Adam Road is possibly the Adam Road Food Centre, a famous eating place that attracts diners from all parts of Singapore. History
The Command House at Kheam Hock Road is evidence of the British colonial rule in Singapore. British architects and engineers constructed it in 1938 to serve as a command post for the British air and navy troops. It was later used as the SAF Command Headquarters. The Admiral of the Fleet of the Royal Navy (British), the Imperial Japanese Army, the war hero Lord Louis Mountbatten and the late President Ong Teng Cheong used to call it home. Standing imperially on top of a hill, the preserved Command House is the present site of UBS Wealth Management Campus (Asia Pacific). Residential
The residential area of Adam Road is largely dominated by luxury condominiums that many expatriates and commercially important people call home. Most of these condominiums adopt the tropical theme, borrowed from the green foliage of nearby Bukit Timah. International Organizations
Adam Road Food Centre sees a clientele of loyal customers and nocturnal people who hail from the far ends of Singapore to feed their late night cravings. Majority of food shops here sell Malay and Indian cuisines like nasi lemak, murtabak and roti prata, but delicious Chinese food like prawn noodles can be easily found too. The highly-recommended food of choice is the BBQ stingray, which, when accompanied by bowls of rice and side dishes like baby kailan in oyster sauce and BBQ sotong, is the perfect meal to share amongst a group of good friends. Finding a seat is sometimes impossible at this food centre, despite the recent upgrading. The way out is to follow suit the diners who eat their takeaways by the curb.
