Seletar refers to native coastal dwellers (called orang laut or orang seletar) who resided at the edge of the Johor Straits and at the mouth of the Seletar River. Thus the river is named as such. - British air bases
The decision to build the bases was made in 1921. To provide for the increasing number of flights in Singapore, Seletar Air Base was built in 1927 and completed in 1929. For 9 years, it meted out flights by international airlines such as KNILM, KLM, Qantas, Empire Airways and British Imperial Airways. Today, Seletar is an aviation training centre for young aspiring pilots from the Singapore Youth Flying club.
- Lower Seletar Reservoir
Lower Seletar Reservoir is a popular venue for water sports such as sailing and fishing, while the Lower Seletar Reservoir Park is a pleasant spot for a leisurely walks. Located on the northern shore of Lower Seletar Reservoir, the park is largely flat with some undulating terrain that provides a pleasant place for strolling, jogging and bird watching. The park is easily reached via Yishun Avenue 1 or Lentor Avenue.
- Upper Seletar Reservoir
In the past, Upper Seletar Reservoir Park was regularly frequented by the Hash Harriers (an international drinking and running club) and horse riders. Today, however, the only ones horsing around here are joggers, walkers, anglers and young couples.
- Seletar Base Golf Course
Originally built for the British Royal Air Force in 1930, the Seletar Base Golf Course offers golf-enthusiasts and the public with a venue to engage in a good game of golf.

- Seletar Aerospace Park
This proposed industrial park will house aviation and aerospace industries, and is hoped to strengthen Singapore 's rank as an aviation hub.
