About
Ubi was primarily a Malay village and known as Kampong (Malay for “village”) Ubi (Malay for “tapioca”). Then, the roads of Kampong Ubi were named after vegetables i.e. Jalan Tauge (bean sprouts), Jalan Kobis (cabbage), Jalan Bayam (spinach), etc. Today, the roads here bear numerical tags such as Ubi Avenue 1, 2, 3… and Ubi Road 1, 2, 3…
Today, Ubi is largely an industrial estate with a little leftover for residential use. There are only about 50 blocks of HDB flats here.
Industrial
Ubi's industrial hub mainly consists of automotive-related businesses such as car showrooms, garages and driving centers. For Singaporeans living in the East, the Comfort Driving Centre @ Ubi is the most accessible driving centre at which you can enroll for your driving and/or riding licenses.
More than 40 other industrial enterprises i.e. JTC, garment, plumbing etc are also found here.
