About
Yio Chu Kang is a district located in the north-eastern part of Singapore, and within the vicinity of, Seletar Serangoon districts. Yio Chu Kang is largely a residential precinct.
History
In early days, the northern areas of Singapore were concentrated with gambier and pepper plantations, a major feature that drew Chinese immigrants to set up their homes here. It is believed that Yio Chu Kang was named after a certain Mr Yeo (an alleged Chinese immigrant) who built his chu (Chinese word for “house”) by a kang (Chinese word for “river”).
Residential
A major feature of Yio Chu Kang's residential area is the low-density, high-rise HDB flats and condominium estates. These residences are located amidst the lush greenery of the various parks and playgrounds here.
