The chicken cobb salad wrap with honey mustard dressing was fantastic. I didn't have high hopes but I was quite happy with the wrap, so much so that a bite of my wife's wrap turned into me eating half her lunch!

That was also partly b/c the pasta dish I ordered came out 10 minutes after the wrap when we were the only ones in the restaurant/deli. I had the spicy sausage spaghetti and it was not very memorable. The sausage they used was not spicy, nor did it resemble anything edible. My wife thought they were raw b/c it wasn't warm or firm so we had them re-cook the sausages. They were still very soft, like the texture of firm tofu or something... it's not firm like an italian sausage should be. The dish was very spicy not b/c of the sausage but b/c it was chock full of small chilis.

Our excitement over the new find and the awesomeness of the wrap was quickly negated by the pasta.

Penang Prawn Noodle/Laksa/Pork Ribs Noodle
Location: Geylang Lorong 15, Geylang
Under S$10
Ingredients
150 g fine rice noodles
2 red chillies, seeds removed and finely chopped
4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
2.5 cm piece of root ginger, roughly chopped
1 sticks lemongrass, outer leaves removed, roughly chopped
50 g coriander, leaves and stalks torn
juice of 1-2 limes
2 tbsp sesame oil
Method
1. Place the noodles in a large bowl and pour over boiling water to cover, so that it comes up to about 2.5cm above the noodles, and leave to soak for 3–4 minutes or until soft. Drain well.

2. Meanwhile, place the chillies, garlic, ginger, lemon grass, coriander (reserving a few leaves for scattering over the dish) and juice of one of the limes in a food processor and blend to a paste.

3. Heat the sesame oil in a large saucepan on a medium heat and fry the chilli paste for 3 minutes. Add the coconut milk, stock and 1 tablespoon of fish sauce or soy sauce. Bring to the boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes.

4. Add the sugar snap peas and bean sprouts and simmer for a further 2–3 minutes or until almost cooked but still crunchy. Check the taste and add more lime juice or fish/soy sauce if necessary.

5. Divide the noodles between warm bowls, ladle the hot soup over and scatter the sliced spring onions and reserved coriander leaves on top.

4 ml canscoconut milk
700 ml vegetable stock
1-2 tbsp fish sauce, (nam pla) or soy sauce

Penang char kway teow originated, as its name suggest, from the Malaysian island of Penang, where other good food such as Penang assam laksa and kway teow teng (soupy kway teow) came from. Compared to the local version, which is also a firm hawker favourite, it is “white”, a lot drier in texture and may or may not have cockles. It is almost always made with only flat rice noodles and does not have yellow wheat noodles like the Singapore version.

Many foodies have lamented that an authentic Penang char kway teow is extremely hard to find locally. In order to satisfy their cravings, many resort to making trips to the island itself or wait for food fairs where hotels or restaurants bring in hawkers from Penang. Well, in the past few years, many eateries have become aware of an increasing appetite for the dish and have starting offering it. Are they any good? We taste-test five Penang char kway teow and here are the results:

Strips of garlic chives completed the dish. Overall, great value at $3 per plate.

Located at the lobby level of Carlton Hotel, Tuxedo is Singapore's chic destination for those who appreciate fine coffee, cakes, pastries and sandwiches. The cafe offers a selection of items like French croissants, cheesecakes and the Signature Tuxedo cake made with Valrhona chocolate, the cafe was impeccably proper in black and white. The contrasting colors would’ve been dull if not for the warm earth tones of the highly polished walls and floor, while lush carpets provided a little luxury. There were even bow tie motifs on chairs and menus for a touch of whimsy. Pleasantly quiet and laid-back, we were glad to have found a nice chill out spot on Saturday right smack in the middle of an overcrowded city area.
I also recommend this place for:
Supper, Lunch, Dinner, Take Away, Children/Family, After Work, Chillout, Quiet, High Tea, Breakfast
