[G28]Garage Door Installation Instructions
by Frank Faller, Fra
If you want to have the proper fit and seal for your garage door you might want to consider having it done by a someone with experience. Unless of course you are very sure of yourself. You can't miss any pieces and they all have to line up and fit together properly for the door to open and close right and to ensure long life.

Additionally, springs that assist in opening and closing the door will be under a lot of tension and can prove dangerous for someone new to garage door installation techniques.

When you get your new garage door it will come with instructions that will probably make it sound really simple. But once you get started and moving forward on the project it can soon become clear that there is a lot more to it than the instructions let on.

When you install the side tracks that the door moves up and down in you have to get the setting just right. The spacing has to be set to where the door seals on all side when it is down and doesn't bind up on the frame when it goes up.

There is some give in the roller guides, which will allow you a little tolerance, but if you set them far apart the will simply fall out and if they are to close it will not move. Be careful and make sure of your measurements it never hurts to double and even triple check yourself.

The Lighter The Door The Easier It Is To Install

These days there are different types of garage doors that are not so heavy. Some are made out of fiberglass and composites that make it possible for one person to handle it. Sometimes, because of their light weight they don't require springs which makes the installation a lot easier. One thing that you still have to make absolute sure of is getting the door to seal properly on the floor.

This seal can prevent the intrusion by wind, rain and snow during inclement weather as well as keeping uninvited guests out of the garage, Mice, bugs and other small animals and insects will try to find comfortable living conditions and a bad garage door installation job can leave many openings for them to access the house.

There have been many homeowners who have tried in vain to install their own garage door only to end up hiring a professional to repair their work and then to install the garage door properly. Ouch double fees. My advice, if you have never done it and really don't have any clue hire someone who does. You will then be assured of a quality fit the first time and satisfaction is normally guaranteed.

In every replacement or installation of new parts, it is important to go slow and read the owner's manual for Garage Door Installation
A new garage door installation or replacing an old garage door may seem like a very huge project. However, if you have any construction experience it can become much easier. Taking your time and with a little patience the garage door will be a good weekend project.
If you want to do the job right, there are a few basic rules you have to consider. The first and main rule is that you need to sit down and read the owner's manual for your new door very carefully. Reading it two or three times is a good idea.
In addition, setting out all the parts that come with your garage door kit and looking at them with your assembly instructions will acquaint you with all of these parts you will be assembling.
Tools
Gather all of the tools that you will need for the garage door project. Doing this in advance of beginning your project is very much advisable. It will save you a lot of time as you proceed with your project. Tools you will need are pretty basic like, tape measure, level, screwdriver, locking pliers, hammer, socket set, electric drill with an assortment of drill bits, a step ladder and a set of saw horses to help hold the different parts steady as you work with them.
With garage door installation, start with your open space for the door and position the first panel in position. Be sure to apply weather stripping to the bottom where the bottom panel meets the garage floor. Secure the bottom panel in position with temporary fasteners so you can then from the hinges on the top of the door panel attach the next panel and so on until you have all of the panels attached.
Attaching Panel Door Tracks
Panel tracks will need to be secured so you can attach the rollers to the panels and then placed in the metal tracks so the door will have something to move on. Be sure to follow closely the instructions for your garage door installation from the door manufacturer as you assemble these tracks and the rollers to the door panels.
When assembling the rollers to the tracks from the panels, check to make sure the door is level and the track is in line to assure the smooth sliding of the door on the tracks. A small amount of oil can be applied to the rollers so they move more easily in the tracks.
As you fasten your metal tracks to the ceiling of the garage, be sure you do so to prevent any movement as the door is raised and rolls along the tracks. This procedure is explained in the garage door installation manual. If you read and follow the directions and don't panic, you can install your garage door with all the confidence of a professional.
