[H1775]How To Write An Ad

by Judy Cullins, Jud

Some do. And some don't. One client put up a four line ad to get her new web site up on the lists. She got 400 hits in a day, but not one click. That's because writing a great ad with the right key words and benefits isn't easy. Another client submitted her seven line ad to her competitor and related subject ezines. She didn't try to sell a book or service, but instead wrote strong enough beneifts to pull new subscribers for her monthly business ezine.

Build your data base to thousands, even tens of thousands.Know that short ads pull well if written well with the right offer. If placed well, you will receive great benefits--new subscribers, new visitors, and new sales.

If you decide this path is for you, remember, like all sales copy, you will want to edit this three to ten times to create the best possible ad. Get feedback from pros who can spot a weak word or phrase. Make sure your offer in the ad is free.

Aim for the five-seven line ad of 65 characters across to fit easily in most ezines and email promotion.

Three Steps To Create your First Ad Draft.

One. Write your headline. This goes first and includes the top benefits for you newsletter or other free report you give away to get those valued email addresses. This part sells. Take your list of benefits out of your files. Start the first sentence with a command verb that illustrates a benefit. This can be your headline.

Headline Examples: Discover how to attract the man of your dreams. Quadruple your ezine subscribers in four months. Build your client data base to promote to each month. Your headline can ask a question, should create curiosity, and always include a top benefit or two.

Two. Write the body. Include more benefits and features. What's the format of your offer?. What does your free ezine offer? For instance, free feature article, free tips, free resources.

Three. Write the call to action. Go to this web site to sign up for the ezine and receive your free report "20 High Octane Book Writing and Marketing Tips." Questions? Include your email address. Send them to an autoresponder your webmaster has set up. Or, send to a special page on your web site.

Remember to make a big promise and keep it. Build your business with integrity. Educate your potential clients and customers instead of the hard sell. They will appreciate it and tell their friends and associates.

You are intelligent enough to know that great online dating personals are critical to your success in attracting the right people. Online dating personals are your chance to make an extraordinary first impression, and you get only one chance. The way you write your online dating personals will make a huge difference in the number of responses you get ? and the quality of each.

Basically You

To write an ad for Internet dating that attracts the most suitable singles, you will want to decide what you can honestly say about you.

- physical appearance
- clothing style
- interests
- career (without company name)

Basically Them

Your online dating personals should include information about the type of person you are seeking.

- body build
- temperament or personality
- lifestyle choices
- considerations: children, pets, etc.

Accentuate the Positive

Emphasize everything about you that is positive. If you are well-mannered, romantic, intellectual, energetic, etc., include it in online dating personals.

Eliminate the Negative

Refrain from writing negative comments. They will be a turn-off. If you are recovering from a bad relationship, don't put it in online dating personals.

Now Let's Write an Ad for Internet Dating

Five ingredients of successful online dating personals are:

1) positive, honest description of you
2) positive description of who you want
3) sincere invitation to contact
4) several honest photos
5) intriguing screen name

Honest Description of You

The best online dating personals are honest, brief, fun, engaging, and sincere. Tell what people like about you. Steer clear of cynical comments. Expand your audience by sticking to non-gender-specific interests. Men, hold back on sports and truck references. Women, keep quiet about shopping and candlelight.

Description of Who You Want

Ask clearly for what you want. Ask for honesty and kindness. Request a chance to get acquainted. Ask for a good match to your own bio. Skip the fantasy and the negative. Don't write who you DON'T want, but who you DO want. Good online dating personals target one audience rather than trying to reach everyone.

Invitation

Online dating personals end by teasing people to contact you, saying they will be glad they did.

Honest Photos

Glamour photos have no place in online dating personals. A picture is worth a thousand words, and every word should be honest. Have a friend snap 5-10 photos with different angles and settings. Have a friend of the opposite sex choose the best 3 or 4 to post. The winners will be:

- clean background
- shoulders and head of you alone
- hair and/or makeup neat
- dress-casual clothing in complimentary colors
- lively eyes and smile
- no sunglasses or tinted lenses

Screen Name

Online dating personals allow you to place a short headline above or below your photo. This should be intriguing and captivating. It's worth some effort. Avoid generic names like sam067 or chicago291. Be creative and brief. Highlight a part of who you are: DolphinLover, JazzMan, or LatteJunkie.

Sample Online Dating Personals

Here's an example of online dating personals for women:

I am an outdoors woman, slim and trim, with brown hair and blue eyes.

I'd take a mountain bike over a stretch limo any day. Take me to a small coffee shop, but not to New York City's 21 Club. I love reading mysteries to classic rock, lying on the floor in old jeans and a flannel shirt. Male friends have told me I'm ?fun to be with? and ?honey without stickiness?. More importantly, close friends say I'm someone they can trust to do the right thing.

An honest gentleman with manners, a kind heart, and a love of the outdoors may find me to be ?the one? you're waiting for.

If you're willing to get acquainted, please contact me right away. You'll be glad you did!

Here's an example of online dating personals for man:

Picture me as a medium build, brown eyed, intriguing artisan who knows the meanings of both Monet and mogul. I'm usually dressed in earth-tone, organic clothing.

Weekdays, you can find me in my downtown studio, but evenings, I invite friends in for jazz music, organic wine, and meaningful conversation. If you and I meet on a weekend, I'll suggest the slopes or trails. Women call me a ?gentleman? and ?knight?, and comment on the gallant way I look out for them. (Their words, not mine!)

I'm looking for a quiet woman who is able to sincerely discuss deep issues, is honest, and loves a ?natural? lifestyle.

If I don't contact you first, please drop a note right away. You'll want to find out why women call me a ?gallant knight?.

Your Prize

When online dating personals are well-written and target the right audiences, you will find it easier to win the prize.

In the United States, 1 of every 8 couples married in 2006 met online!

You may be next.
