[S1221]Symptoms Of Kidney Stones In Women
by J. Johnson, J.
Strutuvite kidney stone cases in the women are increasing these days. They occur due to the chronic bacterial infection of the urinary tract. Chronic bacterial infection of the urinary tract is the primary cause. Among the reasons, diet, which are rich in calories and have lower proportions of proteins, vitamins, minerals, etc.

Kidney stones is a disease in which stones occur in the kidneys. These stones are the aggregates of foreign particles and some waste materials from the body and dead cells. It is important that the kidney stones be detected during the initial stages. Otherwise, they may be fatal. In most cases, the kidney stones consist of calcium aggregates. The occurrence of the stones is highest in the women taking supplements of calcium.

Another factor that is responsible for the higher occurrence of kidney stones in women, is the consumption of beverages and other alcoholic products. Men are less sensitive to them then women.

The pain in the lower abdomen during menstruation is a common symptom of kidney stones. Most kidney stones remain undetected during this time because the pain is very mild. However, if at the same time they experience some urinary problems such as pain during urination, change in color of urine, blood in urine, or disorders and other symptoms such as dullness, fever, nausea or vomiting and if no other reason is found for these, then kidney stones may be the reason.

Therefore, ideally, whenever these symptoms occur unexplainably, then this is a thing to worry. Therefore these should be taken seriously, because the reason they are occurring may be internal. As some serious disease may have occurred in the body and it may possibly be kidney stones.

If the menstrual pain persists even after the menstruation or even if it is abnormal, then there may be something wrong in the internal system of the body, favorably the kidneys.

Kidney stones are a serious disease, which can cause complications such as infections, blockages, inflammation and eventually they may lead to death. They should be removed from the body as soon as they are detected.

The uriflow is one of the treatments commonly used for kidney stones. Taken orally, this treatment contains substances, which have properties through which they can dissolve the kidney stones. They dissolve the kidney stones and then the stones are removed from the body through the urine. Aiding in the removal of the kidney stones from the body and in relieving the body from pain, are the other drugs that are used in the uriflow treatment.

Research conducted at the University of Florida (published in scientific journal called ‘The lancet’) discloses that patients suffering with Cystic Fibrosis who lack a beneficial intestinal bacterium are increasingly susceptible to the development of a condition that may lead to kidney stones. Extensive use of antibiotics may be to blame. The intestinal bacterium in question is called Oxalobacter formigenes. Prior to the discovery of the responsibility of this organism in forming kidney stones, it was widely believed by doctors that cystic fibrosis patients developed kidney stones in connection with intestinal malabsorption problems.

Cystic Fibrosis is very common and is found in one of every 32,000 people born each year in America. The affliction affects the lungs through recurrent infections. Other vital organs may also be affected. Kidneys, however are not influenced other than the fact that kidney stones form. Nine out of ten eventually are found to have a hardening of the kidney stones due to a build-up of calcium and oxalate.

The study conducted at the University of Florida shows that cystic fibrosis patients, in general, have a very, very low frequency of colonization with this intestinal bacteria. The study was conducted on 43 cystic Fibrosis patients by UF researchers in collaboration with scientists from Alachua, Fla.-based Ixion Biotechnology Inc., Northwestern University, the University of Bonn and two German hospitals. Out of 43 patients, 19 produced too much oxalate, and all 19 lacked the bacterium. In contrast, the few patients who were colonized - even with low levels of the organism - had normal oxalate levels. The study participants, all residing in Germany and ranging in age from 3 to 39, showed no signs of an intestinal malabsorption problem. Their results were compared with findings from 21 healthy volunteers aged 4 to 44.

Further research revealed that the bacterium Oxalobacter formigenes is highly sensitive to antibiotic treatment. Thus, any patients who were treated with the two broad-spectrum antibiotics called ceftazidime and trimethroprim-sulfmethoxazole were found to lack Oxalobacter. O. formigenes appears to break down calcium oxalate before it can form crystals that evolve into kidney stones. When the medical records of the research participants were reviewed, it was found that that 29 different antibiotic regimens had been used, and many patients were likely to be on other medications as well. Only one patient had not been treated with antibiotics - the only person who tested strongly positive for O. formigenes.

Armed with this discovery, researchers and doctors can now advise their patients about appropriate intervention tactics, such as a low-oxalate diet. This is a revelation and calls for a great deal of further research and development. Medicine is making its path to
