Getting traffic can be one of the most perplexing parts about owning a website. Lets say you have spent your valuable time, energy, and money setting up a website with great content that delivers fantastic value to your visitors. You even have relevant products to sell on your site, and youre ready for the money to start rolling in. Only problem is, youre not getting the visitors you need to start converting visitors to sales.

Fortunately there are plenty of ways to drive traffic to your website. There is even one way which is practically guaranteed: Pay Per Click. If you havent used Pay Per Click before, its really quite simple. Set up an account with Google, write a short but compelling ad, choose your search terms, bid and go. Anytime someone searches on Google for the terms youve selected, your ad appears on the right-hand side of the screen. You only pay when somebody actually clicks through to your website, and the cost is based on your bid price. As mentioned above, Pay Per Click is great for new site owners because you are virtually guaranteed visitors to your website. Of course the downside is that it isnt free. If you use Pay Per Click as a traffic generation method, make sure your website has enough quality content to get your visitors coming back again and again.

Another way you can drive traffic to your site is to get it ranked in the search engines. This is known as Search Engine Optimization, or SEO. The problem with this is that it can be very complicated, as well as very competitive. If you are tech-savvy and good at research, you do a search online for SEO and you will find mountains of information on how to get your site ranked in the search engine results pages. If you are able to implement the information, you will find yourself getting totally free targeted traffic from peoples web searches.

Another method of getting traffic is reciprocal links. This can be a little controversial these days, because of changes in the way search engines view reciprocal links. It used to be that Google and friends counted any links in to your website as backlinks, which enhance your sites ranking. Theyve now caught on to the fact that many website owners are trading links with each other to try and improve their search engine ranking. Reciprocal links may not help your sites ranking any more, but they still can be a valuable way to drive targeted traffic to your site. Imagine this: youre surfing the net looking for information on how to fix your vehicle. You find a site with some relevant information about fixing cars, but nothing related to your specific make and model. You go to the sites resources or links page, and there you find a link to a page that talks about your exact vehicle, so you surf on over there to find exactly what you wanted. Thats how reciprocal links can deliver traffic directly to your site.

There are many more ways to drive targeted traffic to your website. Put your creativity and imagination to use, and you will be able to come up with many more. Make it your goal to achieve many small streams of traffic, and you will eventually end up with a floor of valuable site visitors.
