It seems that most airlines are more concerned that passengers "feel good" about the boarding experience than they are about the process actually working. First class passengers are boarded through special breezeways or down red carpets.
The airlines may not be working to get the plane boarded and ready for flight, but you can. If you follow a few simple guidelines you will find that the boarding process not only goes faster but that it is much easier for you.
Pack light. Many people are turning to carry on bags are the only luggage in order to save on baggage check fees. Keep in mind that bags that are too large or too heavy (or won't fit into the designated compartments) will be checked whether you like it or not. Keep your carry on light and easy to manage.
Wait your turn. Be ready to board when your seat section is called. Traveling by air is much like the rest of life - the early bird really does get the worm (or the armrest in the case of air travel).
Get in quick. Store your bags and get in your seat as quick as possible so that the passengers behind you will be able to do the same. The key is to get out of the aisle as quickly as possible to make room for the next in line.
You may not be able to make the boarding process faster all on your own, but each little effort will help. Be considerate of the other passengers, pack light and board on time. It may be that the tips catch on and everyone (even the airlines) gets onboard.
